Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments & Booking

Yes. Patients can choose which doctor they see, subject to availability.

Some doctors also consult at our sister clinic. If appointments are not available at Sandy Hill
Medical Centre, reception can advise if the doctor is consulting at another location.

If an appointment is missed or cancelled at short notice, a fee may apply. This helps ensure
appointment availability for other patients.

Please contact the clinic as early as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Arriving late may shorten your consultation or require rebooking, depending on the doctor’s schedule.

New Patients

Yes, we welcome new patients. You can book online or contact reception to arrange your first appointment.
Please bring your Medicare card, any relevant medical history, and a list of current medications.

Fees & Billing

Doctors consulting at Sandy Hill Medical Centre are independent medical practitioners. Fees may vary depending on the doctor, consultation type, and clinical complexity.
Yes. Sandy Hill Medical Centre is a cashless clinic. Payments are accepted by card only.

Fast-Track Consultations

Fast-Track consultations are short appointments for specific requests such as repeat prescriptions, referrals, or medical certificates, where clinically appropriate.
Fast-Track consultations may be bulk billed for patients who meet Fast-Track criteria. Eligibility depends on the nature of the request and clinical suitability.

Telehealth Consultations

No. Telehealth is suitable for some consultations, depending on clinical needs. In-person appointments may be required for examinations or procedures.
When booking telehealth, credit card details are required to secure the appointment. The consultation fee is placed on hold and processed once the consultation is completed.
If a telehealth appointment is cancelled in line with clinic policy, the held amount will be released back to your card.
Patients registered with MyMedicare may be eligible for higher Medicare rebates and access to certain Medicare-supported telehealth services, depending on eligibility.

Medicare & MyMedicare

If eligible, a Medicare rebate may be processed after your consultation. The rebate amount depends on the service provided and Medicare rules.

MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration system that links you to your preferred
medical practice.

Patients registered with MyMedicare may be eligible for higher Medicare rebates,
improved continuity of care, and access to certain Medicare-supported services,
depending on eligibility.

Registration is optional, and our team can assist you with signing up if you would like
more information.

Prescriptions & Referrals

In most cases, a consultation is required to ensure prescriptions and referrals are safe, appropriate, and up to date. Some simple requests may be suitable for a Fast-Track consultation, depending on clinical circumstances. If suitable, these requests may be bulk billed. Reception can advise on the best option for you.

Iron Infusions

Iron infusions require an initial medical assessment to determine suitability based on blood tests and clinical need.
Yes. Iron infusions must be performed by the same doctor who completes the initial assessment and determines suitability.
Iron infusions involve a consultation fee and may also attract treatment room fees. Billing will be discussed with you prior to treatment.

Treatment Room Fees

Treatment room fees may apply when clinic facilities, equipment, consumables, or nursing support are used during a consultation or procedure.
No. Treatment room fees are not Medicare-rebatable and are charged separately from consultation fees where applicable.

Seeing Dr Olena

Dr Olena is a fully qualified and experienced medical practitioner consulting at Sandy Hill

At present, Medicare rebates are not available for consultations with Dr Olena due to
Medicare provider number requirements. This is determined by Medicare policy and is not
related to the quality of care provided.
